Gigil, the firm which created the ad, explained that it was supposed to “acknowledge that it's been a tough year for everyone, and they (Belo Medical Group) encourage Filipinos to bring back the focus on themselves and veer away from the ‘Pandemic Effect.’”

The outcome, however, backfired and netizens were quick to point out how problematic the tone-deaf ad was.
