MANILA -- Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) scored in the drive against human trafficking and cybercrime after rescuing seven women from a reported cybersex den in Laguna this week.

Police operatives raided the cybersex den inside a rented house at Barangay Canlubang, Calamba City Thursday, according to Police Senior Superintendent Bernabe Balba, chief of the Southern Tagalog Region CIDG.

According to the police group, the raided cybersex den has four bedrooms where seven female trafficked persons were caught engaging in pornographic acts in front of a webcam.

Balba said most of the victims, who had foreign customers via the internet, were recruited from Sultan Kudarat and Cotabato City in Mindanao.

Arrested during the raid was the cybersex den's maintainer, a recruiter and a cook. Police also confiscated numerous computers and electronic gadgets used in the cybercrimes, which will be submitted to the CIDG's Anti-Transnational and Cyber Crime Division in Camp Crame for digital forensic examination.

Balba said the arrested suspects would be facing charges for qualified trafficking in persons in large scale and for violating other related laws.

Balba added that the operation, which busted the cybersex den stemmed from a series of overseas calls from a certain "Rick," an American national who requested for immediate police action and rescue of the trafficked victims.

The said American national also sent a series of emails detailing the operation of the cybersex den that mostly catered clients from abroad.
